Fixing sideways or mirrored photos
Photos taken on their side, scanned upside-down, or exported mirrored are a common annoyance. This tool lets you rotate an image in clean 90° increments — so text and faces stay perfectly aligned, unlike free-angle rotation which can leave blurry edges — and flip it horizontally or vertically to correct a mirrored scan or selfie.
All processing happens on the Canvas API directly in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How to rotate or flip an image
- Upload your photo.
- Click "Rotate left" or "Rotate right" to turn it 90° at a time, or "Flip horizontal / vertical" to mirror it.
- Combine actions freely — the preview updates instantly after each click.
- Click "Download" to save the corrected image.
When rotate and flip are actually different tools
These two often get confused, but they solve different problems. Rotating turns the whole image around a center point — useful when a phone or camera saved a photo sideways or upside-down, which happens a lot with scanned documents and photos transferred between devices that don't read orientation data the same way. Flipping mirrors the image along an axis instead of turning it — useful when a selfie camera saves a mirrored version of your face, or when a scanned document came out backwards. Combining both, in either order, covers effectively any orientation problem a photo can have.
FAQ
Does rotating reduce image quality?
No — 90°, 180°, and 270° rotations are lossless pixel remaps, so there's no quality loss, unlike free-angle rotation which requires interpolation.
Can I rotate by a custom angle, like 15°?
This tool focuses on clean 90° steps and mirroring, which covers the vast majority of "my photo is sideways" cases without introducing blur from angled rotation.
What's the difference between flip and mirror?
They mean the same thing here — flipping horizontally mirrors left-to-right, and flipping vertically mirrors top-to-bottom.
Can I undo a rotation or flip if I make a mistake?
Yes — each action can be reversed by applying the opposite action (rotate the other direction, or flip the same axis again), since the original image is preserved in memory until you download.
Does this work on scanned documents as well as photos?
Yes — it works on any image file, including scanned documents, receipts, and screenshots, not just photos.
